Piece of Cake

We have been selling the Oggi’s Oven Dog Cake Mix in the shop for a few months now, but have only just listed it online.

This mix makes up to 12 cupcakes or 1 7” cake for your dog using 100% British, human grade ingredients. Not only is Oggi’s good for your pet, it promotes responsible interaction with children in caring for the needs of the family pet.

Emma bought some instore at Barkitty, and used the mix to make one cake. She decorated it with pate and dog treats! Doesn’t it look wonderful!!

Paw-ty of the Year!

On Saturday June 1st Alfie (my Chocolate Labrador) celebrated his first birthday with his brothers and sisters at a special party at Barkitty, Heart of the Shires Shopping Village, Watling Street Nr Daventry.

Alfie celebrated his birthday with Angus, Charlie, Millie Mae, Darcy, Millie, Dexter and Blue, who all turned one!

Oh. My. Gahd. What a day it was!! Thank you SO SO SO MUCH to everyone who came along today, it was FANTASTIC and what an amazing first birthday for the puppies! 

We are estimating around 100 dogs attended today, how wonderful!

The support I receive, as ever, overwhelms me, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!! Some tired dogs tonight I imagine!?! I have one here absolutely flat out fast asleep!

More than 100 dogs enjoyed the party including, a marquee for the dogs to socialise and enjoy some time together, an agility course, and an enclosed paddock for the dogs to run around and play together.

Northampton Vets4Pets handed out information and advice, and there was a ‘dog friendly’ birthday cake for Alfie and his friends.

We wanted to mark Alfie's first birthday in style and we couldn’t think of a better way then a pooch party with his brothers and sisters and friends of Barkitty Pet Boutique.

“It was such a great day and to see the dogs running around to the music and eating treats together whilst their owners made friends too.”

The event was free of charge and people came along to enjoy the party whilst having a bite of cake to celebrate Alfie’s first birthday.

Joe Moriarty, aged 24, Kislingbury, owner of Thor 12 week old Patterdale Terrier said: “This is the first time Thor has been around other dogs, I heard about Alfie’s party and thought it would be a good way to introduce Thor to other animals.

“He has really enjoyed it eating lots of treats and it has been good seeing him interact with other animals. It was a really great idea of Lisa’s to organise something as you get to meet people through events like this too.”

Cheryl Sligh, owner of Sprocker Spaniel, Jasper, said “What a fab day! Jasper is exhausted so an extra special thank you! I’ve never seen him so happy!” 

I'd also like to say a special THANK YOU to Mandy and Julie from Bluemoo Photography, Steph who did the agility, Emma & Dee from Northampton Vets4Pets, Nikki & Phil from The Lucky Pups Baking Co., Sheila from "Woofielicious dog bakery", Rebekah and Becky who made the human cakes, Rach & Lauren from Cross&Crane Collars who made Alfie's 'it's my birthday' cape and everyone else who helped me today. 

Also, thanks for his pressies and cards... completely unexpected and so kind!! He is a very lucky boy!

Big thanks to Mum, Dad, Jason & Ryan for their massive help too, and thanks to my sister Carla for not giving birth during the party (it took place on her due date)!

Final thanks to Bobby Boosh the security guard - very helpful!!

The party has received huge press coverage locally, but also nationally with Zoe Ball mentioning it on Radio 2 today!

Barkitty Birthday Statistics!

Well, it’s my 1^st birthday already! Where has that year gone?? For fun, I have been putting together some statistics about the shop which I thought you might find interesting!

In total, to date on April 23^rd we’d welcomed 582 pet visitors through the door. 579 dogs, 2 cats and one coatimundi (an animal from the raccoon family).

The most visited breed is Jack Russells, of which we’ve met 46.

We met 37 Chihuahuas, 36 Labradors, 26 Shih Tzu, 25 cocker spaniels, 19 Dachshunds, 18 Bichon Frise, 18 Westies, 17 Yorkies, 17 pugs, 14 French Bulldogs and 12 Staffies amongst many crosses in between and many more breeds!

As my Facebook and Twitter followers will know, I have been posting pictures of different groups of pets who have been into the shop, or featured on my social networking sites. This culminated in a huge image of nearly 400 pets who have visited – and I am going to print this onto a canvas for display in store.

It was his party and he barked when he wanted to!

Well Bobby’s party on Saturday was very well attended and was so much fun! We’re estimating that over 40 dogs came along, and all played together beautifully with barely a cross bark or show of teeth!

 
Even the birthday boy was on best behaviour, being one clearly suits him!
Thank you so much to Sarah & Mike from Amour Pix, who worked really hard to ensure every dog had their 15 minutes of fame and fun in front of the camera! We are all so excited to see the pics! We will be getting them all sent out to you as soon as possible, and don’t forget to donate to Sarah’s ‘Just Giving’ page as a thank you for her efforts yesterday!

We also had the press taking pics, as Janice from Neon magazine came along with her own dog Blossom for some pics! So keep your eyes peeled for the photoshoot in the next month.

Thank you also to my dear friend Becky who made the ‘human cake’. As always, it was delicious, and was scoffed nearly as quickly as the doggy version! 

 

I am so lucky to have such wonderful, supportive customers who are as enthusiastic about what I do as me! It really makes the long hours I work so worthwhile. In the last 6 months my family (four-legged and two-legged) have met so many new friends!

I have had lots of requests for another party – and the next one will be June, when Alfie and his 7 brothers and sisters turn 1! Watch this space for more info…

Date for your diary – November 17th! Our little Bobby Boosh turns one next month and to celebrate we’re throwing him a party!

Barkitty official opening party!

Well they say the best things come to those who wait, so 5 weeks into trading the Mayor of Northampton officially ‘cut the ribbon’. It was a great day laden with plenty of bubbly and jubilee cakes from the Shires Deli; along with doggy ‘pupcakes’ by Scruffy Mutz in Northampton which, according to Jason, tasted OK!

I think we had over 50 people here for the cutting of the ribbon, and I was so thrilled to see the shop full of smiling faces (maybe that was the bubbles).

Thank you again for all of the support I receive, I really couldn’t do any of this without you.  My Facebook page is constantly increasing in popularity and I have 1000 ‘likes’ already. If you haven’t already joined, then please do because it’s a great community and has lots of fun facts and photo’s of pets.

In June I have been featured in local magazines like Limelite, Neon, R Mag, Image and Northants Life; as well as huge national magazine Dogs Today. I’m nearly as famous as a Big Brother contestant in these parts!  Image magazine are featuring my products in a photoshoot which looks to be great fun.

I have some exciting projects underway, including my own brand, so watch this space for the announcements coming soon!

I have a great family and friends, but also a fantastic group of customers who are so enthusiastic about the shop. It was a big leap for me to leave my job and set up a business, but so far it has been a very positive experience.
