Seventh Heaven

Join us in store at Barkitty this Saturday, 5th April, to share the launch of a really exciting new product! The Dog’s Daily Just 7 Canine Cookies.

Our Just 7 Canine Cookies are baked from 7 different grains for your dog’s daily nutrition. By eating only one of cookies per day your dog can achieve a better sense of wellbeing and balance. How this works is each cookie containing the grain has to be taken on the specific day because each grain has a specific job to do in the dogs bodies, from connecting muscle tissues to opening the airways and even strengthening muscles thus balancing your dog’s health.

In the Waldorf teaching and connected to the cosmic origins of the days of the week a different grain a day fits in with the nourishing weekly rhythm the body. Wheat is often seen as a harmonizer of the organ systems, rice is seen as acting on the digestive system, barley is seen as strengthening to the connective ligaments due to a high silica content and also seen to be soothing to the mucous membranes of the stomach and intestines, millet is seen to have warming properties, rye nourishes the head and bones, oats loosens stiffness and increases stamina and resistance to disease, and maize stimulates the metabolism in muscles.

All our cookies are preservative and additive free with two month’s shelf life, we want your dog to enjoy these cookies at their fresh-baked best so once you receive them they are best stored in an air tight container, preferably out of direct sunlight. Once you have opened use one a day for 7 days use by best before date, they are also suitable for home freezing once frozen ideally on or near to the day of purchase and take out quantities as and when you require them, they defrost very quickly but use within two months, they can be warmed for extra taste.
All of our cookies and treats are made fresh for order they are hand baked, cut, tested, as we value our product we hand pack the cookies for delivery - we feel it’s important to know exactly what goes into them.

All of our ingredients are human grade quality which means that they're good enough for you or I to eat! We don't use any preservatives or artificial flavours or colours - all of our products are 100% natural and mostly organic to been eaten within 7 days of purchase. For new customer samples of our product are available on request delivered to your address.

At the launch you will get to hear the ‘Meet the Baker speech: This is a good introduction to the faces behind baking the canine cookies. The audience will feel more enlightened about the brand and have a chance to ask questions along with the press. Samples of our cookies will be available on the day and you can also purchase the cookies on the day at Barkitty.

As always you will also have the opportunity to browse the Barkitty boutique a true kingdom for dogs for accessories, treats for you and your four-legged friends.

Canagan Update

I thought I’d give you a bit of an update on Alfie and Jasmine’s new food regime. They are both doing really well with the Canagan kibble, and we’re definitely going to stick with it.

Alfie the Chocolate Labrador is being exceptionally fussy at the moment. He is suffering with hayfever, and the heatwave of recent weeks seems to have taken his appetite for dog food (not human food I may add). So we are giving him about ¾ of the recommended amount of Canagan kibble along with a couple of big spoonfuls of Lily’s Kitchen wet food. The meat entices him to dive in quicker, and it’s a good way of hiding a Piriton tablet! His favourite combination is the Salmon kibble, and Lily’s Kitchen Fishy Fish Pie with Peas.

Jasmine the cat is now 7 and a half, and we noticed that quite often she wasn’t digesting her meat as well as usual. It often made her sick after eating it, and after discussing this with her vet we decided to remove the wet food from her diet and see if things improved. I’m pleased to say it did. She is getting all of her nutritional requirements from the kibble, and she’s gained some weight back. Her coat’s looking good (with the help of a FURminator of course), and she seems to have plenty of energy. We noticed she has been drinking much more water since we switched her to dry. She hardly used to drink from her bowl at all, but now she does. On really hot days I did sometimes add a couple of spoonfuls of Lily’s Kitchen Chicken or Fish wet food, just to make sure she was getting enough hydration.

So, I’d say it’s going really well with two very healthy happy pets under my roof!

I'll have what Hector's having...

To add more treat choices in store this winter, Barkitty are happy to be Hungry Hector’s newest stockists. These were first recommended to me by shop regular Pocky’s owner, Yasuko, who told me how much Pocky loves them!

“Really they're just about Pocky's favourite crunchy snack, which is saying something! He'd certainly be very pleased indeed if you were to add them to your stock at Barkitty”!

After doing some research, and sending out tester samples to members of the Barkitty club the feedback has been outstanding! And, of course, Alfie gobbles them all up (but he does that with everything)!

Some info on Hungry Hector;

All of the treats use fresh Cornish ingredients where ever possible and are approved by Katherine Davis a qualified vet, who also helps with the nutritional content of the treats.

All meat is delivered daily from R J Trevarthens who specialise in the finest quality of Cornish meat from the local farms. Their staff have a wealth of experience and employ traditional methods of butchery. Trevarthens are a Freedom Food RSPCA monitored abattoir.

The fish is freshly supplied from Tasy Mac Pack, who sustainable catch the fish in Cornish waters and are part of the Sustainable Fishing Scheme

They only use Doves Brown Rice Flour or Mornflakes Rolled Oats.

They never use any animal or vegetable derivatives, slats, sugars, colourants or preservatives or any other artificial ingredients.

The herbs are grown in their own poly tunnels.

All treats are freshly baked with own human grade kitchens, they do not out source any of our production to ensure the highest quality.

The treats are gently baked to retain the goodness and so they are easily broken to smaller size rewards as required.

As soon as the treats are cooled they pack them into their double pouch to seal in the freshness and give a six month shelf life, which is tested to human grade.

But why not judge for yourself, and treat your pooch to a pack! They smell AMAZING, as everyone who has been into the shop today noticed!

If you would like a completely free sample pack please email hello@barkitty.co.uk (while stocks last).
